Retirement Savings Calculator
Enter your current savings, monthly contribution, expected return, and inflation to see what your nest egg could be worth — in future dollars and in today's dollars.
How the projection works
Your current savings and monthly contributions grow at the assumed annual return. The result is shown in future dollars and adjusted for inflation to show purchasing power in today’s dollars.
P is current savings, C is the monthly contribution,i is the monthly return, and m is the number of months.
The 4% rule estimate is the projected balance multiplied by 4% and divided by 12. It is a rough planning guideline, not a guarantee of sustainable withdrawals.
Frequently asked questions
Why show a balance in today’s dollars?
Inflation reduces purchasing power. A future balance that looks large may buy less than it does today. Dividing by inflation shows what that balance is worth in current dollars.
What is the 4% rule?
The 4% rule is a rough guideline that suggests withdrawing about 4% of your portfolio in the first year of retirement, then adjusting for inflation. It is not a guarantee.
Does this include Social Security?
No. The projection covers personal savings only. Social Security, pensions, and other income sources would be added on top.
